Entonces Aarón tomó el oro, lo fundió y lo moldeó hasta darle la forma de un becerro. Al ver Aarón el entusiasmo del pueblo, edificó un altar frente al becerro. Luego anunció: «¡Mañana celebraremos un festival al Señor!». (NTV).
No tardaron en actuar: reunieron oro, hicieron un becerro de metal y se postraron ante él. Lo más triste es que dijeron: '¡Este es tu dios, Israel, que te sacó de Egipto!'. Olvidaron al Dios invisible que había hecho maravillas y prefirieron una imagen hecha por manos humanas.
Aarón se puso de parte de ellos, aun sabiendo que estaba mal. ¿Por qué lo hizo? Porque quería evitar conflictos, quedar bien con la multitud, sin importar si desagradaban a Dios. Porque es más fácil seguir a la mayoría, no oponerse, no ser diferentes, que defender la santidad, la verdad y el nombre del Dios único.
